New to reformer
What to expect on your first visit.
What should I wear?
Close-fitting, stretchy clothing you can move freely in. Grip socks are required — we sell them for $18 or bring your own. No shoes on the reformers.
Which class should I start with?
Foundation. It teaches the reformer vocabulary — springs, straps, carriage control — so everything else makes sense. After two or three Foundation classes, you can try Flow or Athletic.
I have an injury. Can I still come?
Yes, but book a Clinical 1:1 with Kate first. She'll assess your movement and plan a programme. If you have an ACC claim, sessions may be funded — bring your referral letter.
How is reformer different from mat Pilates?
The reformer adds spring resistance and a sliding carriage, so you work against load through a full range of motion. It's lower impact than mat work and easier to modify for injuries.
Do I need to be fit to start?
No. Foundation classes are designed for complete beginners. The springs do the heavy lifting — literally. We scale everything to your current level.
Is there parking?
Street parking on Shotover Street and surrounding streets. The Council car park on Man Street is a two-minute walk. We're also next to the bus hub.
I started at Alpine Reformer six months after my ACL reconstruction. Kate's clinical sessions got me back on skis this season — I honestly didn't think that was possible.— Tom Eriksen, Queenstown
I'm a seasonal worker and I've done Pilates in four countries. This is the best-run studio I've been to. Six reformers, six people, no waiting. Jake's Ski Prep class is brutal in the best way.— Lucia Moreno, Queenstown (via Argentina)
The prenatal classes were exactly what I needed — gentle enough for the third trimester but I still felt like I'd done something. Kate knows her stuff.— Megan Ashworth, Arrowtown
