01 Instruments & lessons

We teach five instruments across all levels, from absolute beginners through to ABRSM and Trinity grade exams. Every lesson includes a written practice plan for the week ahead.

Piano

Classical, jazz and popular styles. Acoustic upright and digital weighted-key pianos in every studio. Beginner to Grade 8.

Guitar

Acoustic and electric. Chord charts, fingerpicking, music theory and songwriting. We lend a guitar for your first term if you do not own one.

Drums

Kit drumming, hand percussion, rudiments and reading. Soundproofed studio with a Pearl Export kit and Roland TD-17 e-kit for quiet practice.

Voice

Technique, breath control, performance confidence and repertoire building. Classical, musical theatre and contemporary pop from age 10 up.

Ukulele

Perfect for young beginners (age 5+). Group classes capped at six students. Strumming, singing along and basic theory in a fun, relaxed setting.

02 Our tutors

Every tutor at Tūī holds a degree or diploma in music and a current police vet. Between them they cover classical, jazz, rock, pop and kapa haka.

Ngaire Hohepa

Piano & Theory

LTCL Piano Performance. 12 years teaching. Ngaire runs the ABRSM exam preparation programme and has had 94% of her students pass with merit or distinction.

Marcus Te Whiu

Drums & Percussion

BMusPerf (Waikato). Eight years touring and session work before teaching. Marcus also runs the holiday Drum Circle workshops.

Sam Singh

Guitar

DipMus Jazz (NZSM). Six years teaching acoustic, electric and bass guitar. Sam writes original material and brings songwriting into every lesson.

Ana Waititi

Voice & Ukulele

BMus (Auckland). Musical theatre background, kapa haka performer. Ana leads the ukulele group classes and coaches students for NCEA and Trinity exams.

Reuben Kemp

Piano & Composition

MMus Composition (Victoria). Reuben teaches advanced piano and music theory, and runs the Summer Songwriting Camp for teens.

04 Holiday workshops

School-holiday intensives open to enrolled students and newcomers. All materials, instrument hire and morning tea included.

Ages 10–16 · Mon–Fri, 10am–3pm · 5 days · Write, record and perform an original song with a band. Tutors: Reuben & Sam.

05 Student recitals

Every term ends with a recital at the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre, Rotorua. Families welcome, koha entry. Students perform solo or ensemble pieces they have prepared over the term.
