Kōwhai Kids is an OSCAR-approved after-school and holiday programme on King Street, Pukekohe — right beside Rosa Birch, Valley and St Joseph's primaries. Homework done, energy spent, dinner-ready kids at 6pm.

Holiday programme

Full-day care during school holidays with themed weeks — sports, science, art, and local excursions. Morning tea and lunch provided.

WINZ childcare subsidies

Most families qualify for a WINZ Out of School Care and Recreation (OSCAR) subsidy of up to $5.00 per hour. We can help you apply — ask at enrolment or email enrol@kowhaikids.co.nz.

What does OSCAR approved mean?
OSCAR stands for Out of School Care and Recreation. Our programme is approved and audited by the Ministry of Social Development, which means we meet safety, staffing and facility standards — and your family may qualify for a government subsidy.
Which schools do you pick up from?
We run a bus from Rosa Birch School, Valley School, St Joseph's Pukekohe and Pukekohe North School. The bus departs each school at 3pm and arrives at our King Street site by 3:15. If your school is not listed, you are welcome to drop off directly.
Can I book casual days?
Yes, if we have space. Text or email by 9am on the day. Casual days are charged at the daily rate. Regular bookings get priority.
What if my child has allergies?
We are a nut-aware site. Please note all allergies and dietary needs on the enrolment form — our kitchen team prepares afternoon tea daily and can accommodate most requirements. We hold a current allergy action plan for every child with a diagnosed allergy.
Do you help with homework?
Yes. The first 30 minutes (3:00–3:30) is a supervised homework zone with quiet tables, stationery and a reading corner. We help where we can but we are not tutors — if a child needs extra support, we will let you know.
What is your wet-weather plan?
We have a large indoor hall with gym mats, board games, a projector for movie afternoons and a craft station. Children still go outside in light rain with appropriate gear, but heavy rain days are entirely indoors.
How do I cancel a booking?
Cancel by 9am on the day for no charge. Cancellations after 9am or no-shows are charged at the full daily rate. Holiday programme bookings cancelled less than 48 hours before are charged at 50%.

Behaviour
Positive guidance approach. Persistent issues addressed with parents in a written plan.
Sun safety
Hats required for outdoor play September–April. We supply SPF 50+ sunscreen.
Sickness
Children with fever, vomiting or diarrhoea must stay home for 48 hours after last symptoms.
Late pick-up
$15 per 15-minute block after 6pm. Two late pick-ups in a term triggers a care-plan meeting.
